my thoughts tonight.

My MIL clued me in on what probably most moms figure out for themselves. I wouldn't have. Back when Max was a baby, and before I really knew what I was getting into, she told me about the "witching hour" the hour before dinner when you were trying like crazy to get a hot meal on the table while someone cute was weeping and wailing and gnashing his teeth and rather than get a hot meal on the table you manage to pull out all of your hair, hold a binky in that little cute someones mouth with one hand and sing a primary song to try to get him to shooooooosh, and with that last free hand, put something overdone on the table for your babe when he comes home. Do you know what I'm talking about? Well, she was totally right, and I know the hour well...from4-7, most days I want to tear out all of my hair. Jeff's usually not home, which makes it worse, and while I don't make lavish gourmet meals for just me and my two littles, it's still not my favorite few hours of the day. In case anyone cares, my MIL's cure for the witching hour is a walk...screw the hot meal, go for a walk and figure out the rest later. (pretty sure she wouldn't say 'screw', but this is me talking.)
Anyway, the reason I'm writing about it is because today, the witching hour was completely avoided due to two amazing things...1. a crockpot, that allowed me to make (i hope) a yummy dinner while the littles were playing and 2. an awesome friend that made the time go by so fast.
As Max, Ives and I walked home in the dark today, whistling some primary songs to keep us from being scared, I just thought how grateful I am to have such awesome friends.
Thanks.

Can't even tell you how much I can relate to this post. I think our tramploine has saved me and my kids from who knows what at that particularly "fun" time of day! I also find that especially when my babe isn;t going to be home for dinner, sometimes Eggo's or cereal are okay to make sure you stay sane!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts...loved it!
