Swimming Lessons 2011

Swimming Lessons were a necessity this year.
Because Max broke his arm the very first day of swimming lessons last year, and Ivy had to take over, it was important to me that we get both kids swimming...or at least a little more water safe!
We went to both Amber's Swim School, and finished off with Debbie Martin in Anaheim Hills.  I was so impressed with how much they improved and how comfortable in the water they are!
Max started out the year crying if the teacher stood too far away from him.  He didn't have any confidence in himself, even though he really did catch on to the idea pretty fast.    Here's him at one of his first lessons:
And here he is during "practice time"  Every day, after his lesson, and while Ivy was taking her lesson, Max got to swim at the opposite end of the pool, and swim laps to practice his strokes and get stronger.  I was so amazed at how much more comfortable he was in the water...Practicing swimming underwater:
and trying to swim as very fast as he could...
If he needs to take a breath, he flips over to rest, and then goes again.  I feel so much more safe with him being able to swim by himself while I have a little crazy Ivy, that going to the pool with 2 isn't that big of a deal!

Ivy on the other hand was not afraid of being in the water.  She enjoyed jumping into the water when no one was looking, and with no warning.  And once there, she just waited around like a dead fish for someone to grab her.  Here's how she "swam" at the beginning of swimming lessons:
and at the end, after going from dead fish, to crazy worm girl (where she kicked both arms and both legs at the same time and flopped around like a fish out of water) to mermaid girl...where she can actually propel herself for a minute.  sigh....so much better!
We may still put Ivy in one more session this year...if not, we're practicing, practicing, practicing!
